Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Ambulatory
- Urology

Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 45 days unless department leader determines it is not required
Education Required
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare and room the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (e.g., chief complaint, allergies, medications).
  • Perform laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and standard precautions (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection).
  • Assist the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries (e.g., pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy).
  • Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiate, maintain and discontinue IV therapy; administer selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
  • Provide basic patient education and coordinate care, including prescription renewals, appointment times, and referrals; relay information to patient as directed.
  • Communicate with physicians and health care team; document and communicate accurate and timely patient information.
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks under supervision (e.g., removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, wound care).
  • Organize and maintain exam rooms, labs, and work areas; assist with patient positioning and transport as needed.
  • Maintain clinic equipment and ensure sterile technique for instruments and supplies.
  • Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate knowledge and skills to provide care across the life span per department policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows, and electronic medical records.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; up to 20 lbs over head; carry up to 40 lbs; push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Ability to perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical hazards and blood/body fluids; wear protective clothing as needed.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch; fine-hand manipulation skills.
  • Operates all job-essential equipment.
