Description

At Brenner Children’s Hospital, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care for children with kidney‑related conditions. Our Pediatric Nephrology team is a dynamic, multidisciplinary group that includes skilled attending pediatric nephrologists and pediatricians, an experienced Physician Assistant (PA), and a compassionate team of nurses and staff. We are looking for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team and contribute to the care of pediatric patients across a variety of settings.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered care for pediatric nephrology patients, including assessments, diagnostics, treatment planning, and management of conditions like kidney disease, hypertension, and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Work collaboratively with nephrologists, PAs, and the nephrology team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients.
  • Support patients and families by offering education on kidney disease, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Assist with the coordination of care, ensuring seamless communication among multidisciplinary providers.
  • Participate in the delivery of specialty care across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, dialysis, and follow‑up care.
  • Opportunities for future training and involvement in specialized procedures such as dialysis, infusion therapies, renal ultrasound, and percutaneous renal biopsies.
  • Use medical decision‑making skills to determine the appropriate patient care plan.
  • Collaborate with the medical team when needed for effective team‑based care.
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Perform procedural skills per department or practice guidelines.
  • Potential for and encouraged to precept students and/or medical learners.
  • Uphold AHWFB missions, values, and cultural commitment.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications

Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program;
    Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA.
  • Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to start.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration, for prescription writing is required to start.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:

  • Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program, Master's degree or higher required.
  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner‑Acute Care by AANP or ANCC.
  • Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to start.
