Position: 2026-2027 Nursing Faculty-Adult Health Area

Nursing Faculty-Adult Health Area Position Overview

The Division of Nursing is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach didactic and/or clinical courses in the Undergraduate Adult Health Area, including Medical‑Surgical/Adult Health Nursing, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Health Assessment, Clinical Nursing Foundations, Nursing Research, and Leadership & Management of Care.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide theoretical and/or clinical instruction and experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the nursing program and profession.
  • Facilitate student achievement of course objectives and learning outcomes through varied teaching methods.
  • Evaluate student achievement of course objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Utilize feedback from student and faculty evaluations for instructional improvement.
  • Utilize evidence‑based research in teaching and the clinical practice of nursing.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.
  • Perform other duties that support the mission and strategic initiatives of Winston‑Salem State University and the Division of Nursing.
  • Evidence of continued professional development through membership in a professional organization or certification in a specialty area of practice.
  • Serve as a role model for students in professional, social, and civic areas.
Clinical Instruction
  • Conduct the clinical/practicum component of the course.
  • Correlate classroom content to the clinical practice setting.
  • Facilitate students’ achievement of course objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate mastery of clinical practice skills and competencies.
  • Evaluate students’ level of competency and achievement of learning outcomes in the clinical practice setting.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required for adjunct faculty teaching didactic courses.
  • Clinical Adjunct Only: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred. Consideration may be given to individuals with a BSN and preparation in teaching and learning principles in nursing education, such as the NC AHEC Clinical Instructor Partner (CIP) Program or those currently completing the CIP Program.
  • Minimum of two years full‑time employment in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse (RN) verified by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Work experience and teaching experience in medical‑surgical/adult health nursing.
  • Current, unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina.
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing effective teaching/learning strategies in the classroom and/or clinical practice setting.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in medical‑surgical/adult health specialty areas.
  • Ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process, including online and face‑to‑face instruction.
  • Effective management of conflict and time.
  • Ability to mentor and support undergraduate students through engagement in the classroom and/or clinical learning environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development through engagement in professional organizations, conferences, workshops, and other professional activities.
  • Commitment to liberal education, diversity, equity, social justice, and social determinants of health in inclusive environments.
Required License or Certification
  • Current unrestricted RN license to practice in North Carolina.
  • Clinical Adjunct Only:
    Completion of the NC AHEC Clinical Instructor Partner (CIP) Program if not meeting the North Carolina Board of Nursing verified teaching requirements.
