Position Overview
The Emergency Medicine Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) requires an NP or PA to provide overnight coverage and evaluate adult patients who need additional evaluation to determine whether a longer hospital admission is necessary. The APP works under physician supervision, performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, maintains patient progress records, and consults with supervising physicians when needed.
Responsibilities- Provide nighttime coverage for the CDU with a minimum of 36 patient‑facing hours per week.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for emergency medical problems under indirect physician supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, tentative conclusions, and progress notes.
- Consult with supervising physicians when a patient's progress does not meet anticipated criteria.
- Collaborate with attending physicians, residents, nurses, and other APPs to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Graduation from an accredited PA program; master’s degree preferred.
- Current North Carolina Medical Board license and NCCPA certification.
- One year of PA clinical experience.
- Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current DEA and Department of Public Safety registration for prescription writing.
- Graduation from an accredited NP master’s program; master’s degree or higher required.
- Current North Carolina Board of Nursing RN and NP license.
- Board certification in NP by AANP or ANCC.
- One year of ENP or AGACNP experience.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current DEA and Department of Public Safety registration for prescription writing.
