Academic Faculty – Nurse Anesthesia Associate Program Director

Position Summary

The Academic Faculty – Nurse Anesthesia Associate Director is a doctoral-prepared Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who serves as a member of the academic faculty and provides leadership for the Nurse Anesthesia educational track. Working in partnership with the Nurse Anesthesia Program Director, the Associate Director supports the organization, administration, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the program while ensuring compliance with all applicable accreditation, regulatory, and institutional requirements.

The Associate Director participates in teaching, service, scholarship, student recruitment, curriculum oversight, and faculty support activities that promote academic excellence and student success.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) required.
  • Education and/or experience in the assigned course area.
  • Maintains certification/recertification as a CRNA and participates in faculty practice as defined by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Maintains RN licensure and recognition as a CRNA in North Carolina.
  • Holds unencumbered certification as a CRNA.
  • Maintains appropriate RN and/or APRN licensure in all states where students are assigned clinical rotations, or verifies that the Program Director holds the required licensure.
  • Completes formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation, and instructional methods.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities Leadership and Administration
  • Provides leadership for the Nurse Anesthesia educational track.
  • Assists in oversight of the organization and administration of the educational track.
  • Ensures compliance with Council on Accreditation (COA) standards.
  • Facilitates nurse anesthesia faculty teaching assignments for each academic term.
  • Assumes responsibility for track operations in the absence of the Director.
  • Delegates administrative responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assists in budget planning and resource allocation that supports academic quality.
  • Develops goals and strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are administered fairly and equitably.
  • Maintains effective communication with clinical partners, accrediting agencies, and professional organizations.
Teaching And Faculty Responsibilities
  • Fulfills all requirements of the assigned academic rank.
  • Participates in teaching activities within the Nurse Anesthesia curriculum.
  • Supports curriculum planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure high-quality instruction and student outcomes.
Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement
  • Participates in review and analysis of program evaluation data.
  • Uses outcomes data to implement improvements and support accreditation requirements.
  • Contributes to quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
Student Recruitment and Support
  • Participates in recruitment and admission activities designed to attract qualified applicants.
  • Provides academic advising, mentorship, and student support.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential student records and evaluations.
  • Assists in preparation of program information for applicants, students, faculty, and the public.
Scholarship and Service
  • Participates in scholarship activities consistent with faculty rank expectations.
  • Engages in service activities at the program, department, school, and professional levels.
  • Represents the Nurse Anesthesia Program with internal and external stakeholders.
