ICU Nurse, Pediatric Nurse
RN - Peds PACU
This position is for a registered nurse in the Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The facility is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation. The PACU has 20 beds with an average daily census of 30-40 patients. Candidates should be comfortable managing medications typically encountered in an ICU setting, including heparin, insulin, and occasionally cardiac medications. Care primarily involves pediatric patients aged 0-17, covering most surgical specialties, except cardiac.
Patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2, depending on acuity. Vented patients typically go straight to the ICU, and there is limited use of BiPAP, primarily in a post-operative setting. While the focus is on pediatric patients, nurses may occasionally care for adult patients based on unit needs. Support within the department includes transporters, clerical staff, and a PACU educator. Dedicated charge and management staff do not take patients, allowing them to focus on supporting the nursing staff.
Anesthesia is available 24/7. Nurses are responsible for telemetry monitoring. Technology and equipment include EMR systems, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and patient monitors. Candidates should have a collaborative, all-hands-on-deck mentality, especially in an open bay unit environment.
