The NPDS coordinates and/or conducts both didactic and interactive education of clinical staff within the Wake Forest Baptist Health System to enhance enterprise‑wide patient quality and safety.

Pay Range: $44.15 - $66.25

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Health Care Management, or Business Administration required.
• Three to five years clinical experience in an academic medical center or tertiary hospital setting required.
• Teaching and leadership experience preferred.
• Experience with Health Stream Learning Management System desired.

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in applicable state required.
• BCLS required.
• Certification in clinical specialty or Nursing Professional Development preferred.
• For Labor & Delivery: NPDS, NRP required and RNC-OB certification preferred.

• Independently plans, delivers, and evaluates an array of educational programs in collaboration with the Director and Manager of Clinical Education, Birth Center Director, System Directors, Nurse Managers, and Clinical Educators.
• Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates professional development initiatives for nursing and the inter‑professional team (Intern and Extern program, Orientation, Transition to Practice, Contact hour credited programs, charge nurse program, preceptor program, scholarship management, etc.).
• Serves as a resource/liaison for the WFBH clinical environments, Medical and Nursing schools, and community activities; provides consultation for program development.
• Partners with clinical leaders, committees, councils, and other departments to identify staff learning needs and develop educational programs and training for new products, including annual competency assessment.
• Conducts regulatory compliance and policy review and revision involving the design, testing, implementation, education, and maintenance of clinical content for the Learning Management System.
• Ensures quality education for service lines, collaborates with unit‑based Clinical Educators and Nurse Managers, and participates in 8 hours of continuing education.
• Leads or serves on project teams for educational initiatives, supports the Professional Practice Model and Evidence‑Based Practices, and engages in research and quality improvement.
• Practices in compliance with Scope and Standards of Practice for the Nursing Professional Development Specialist.
• Supports age/developmentally appropriate patient care and collaborates with managers, charge nurses, clinical educators, preceptors, and multidisciplinary teams to promote quality patient outcomes.
• Conducts data collection, program evaluation, and implements changes based on trends and identified issues.
• Maintains a positive work environment and serves as a role model for medical center values.
• Collaborates with Clinical Compliance and Regulatory Services in developing and reviewing policies.
• Provides oversight for quality in the OR space, including medication labeling and eyewear management.
• Plans, directs, and evaluates educational programs in perioperative nursing.
• Provides input for surgical services internal website and directs preceptor programs for the department.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Subject to many interruptions, irregular hours, occasional travel, weekend hours, and unpredictable situations. Frequent pressure related to multiple calls and diverse primary customer needs. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.
