American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Psych for an Adult Behavioral Health unit, requiring an active NC or compact RN license and 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience.

• Adult Behavioral Health unit within an academic medical center
• 24-bed unit with a daily census of 18-20 patients
• Cares for adults 18+ with diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation
• Open day room unit accepting all diagnoses, though not a designated detox center
• May care for recently postpartum patients with compounding psych diagnoses requiring inpatient treatment
• RN to patient ratio of 1:6 and MHT to patient ratio of 1:12
• Uses Epic/Encompass EMR
• Utilizes Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Unit-specific equipment includes seclusion room, restraint bed, and restraint chair
• 12-hour day shift schedule ), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to Peds Behavioral Health

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS and CPI certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience required
• Most recent experience within the last year
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical/medical restraints required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to work collaboratively and tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Comfortable running therapeutic groups (not required but preferred)
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• Provide direct and indirect patient care to psychiatric patients
• Support from CNAs and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) who assist with patient care under RN direction
• Unit staffed with charge nurse and receptionist/HUC support
• Phlebotomy services available on unit
• Rapid Response Team available as resource
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available
• Facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital with 885 licensed beds
• Facility also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Free employee parking provided
• Unit culture described as patient-centered with strong teamwork and dependability
• Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the position
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
