Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Neuro)

Winston-Salem, NC | Acute Care

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 13–26 Week Assignments | 36 or 48 hours per week available

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg Neuro unit with a primary focus on stroke patients, as well as neurosurgery and other neurological diagnoses including epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and related conditions
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, including identification and management of dysrhythmias
  • Perform IV starts and administer medications in accordance with unit protocols
  • Document patient care using EPIC, PYXIS, and SBAR communication frameworks
  • Float as required to other Med/Surg or Telemetry areas within the facility, which may include COVID care units
  • Work every other weekend as part of the standard schedule; make up any missed weekend shifts based on unit needs
Required Qualifications
  • Active NC RN license or Compact RN license (pending license acceptable at time of submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
  • At least 2 successfully completed travel contracts required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Demonstrated experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Med/Surg Neuro experience required
  • BLS, NIH, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Local candidates are welcome to apply (note: a local rate applies for candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Prior experience in a neuro-focused care environment, including stroke or neurosurgery patient populations
  • Familiarity with Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) workflows or similar specialized neuro settings
