American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg
- Neuro RN with at least 2 years of experience and 2 completed travel contracts for a night shift hospital position requiring NC or compact RN licensure.
- Medical Surgical
- Neuro unit caring primarily for stroke patients, along with neurosurgery and other neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas - Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with training provided for travelers only if needed
- 42 daily census with 43 rooms/beds
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15)
- Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Every other weekend work required
- Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units
- Frequent floating may be required based on unit needs
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems
- Active RN license (NC or Compact)
- Current BLS, NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience (not Med/Surg Tele) in work history
- Must have at least 2 successful travel contracts completed prior to applying
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required:
IV starts, telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and Med/Surg neuro experience - Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Provide Med/Surg nursing care to neurological patients including stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, and traumatic/non-traumatic brain injury cases
- Unit orientation is 36 hours
- Navy scrubs required
- First-time travelers will not be accepted for this position
- Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if it doesn't fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and is not allowed during the first week
- If RTO falls on a scheduled weekend, missed shifts must be made up at the end of the contract
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
- Preferred scheduling type is used for this unit
