American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with required orthopedic experience for a fast-paced unit caring for ortho, neuro spine, and post-surgical patients.
Details- Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical cases
- Average daily census of 37 with 39 beds
- Expected patient ratio of 5-6:1, flexing to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Day shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 06:45-19:15
- Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M)
- Floating required to other med-surg units based on facility staffing needs
- Every other weekend required, with make-up time required for weekend call-offs
- No on-call requirements specified
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending accepted at submission
- Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of orthopedic experience
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skills required include IV starts and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with hip and trauma hip patients preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required, though first-time travelers with Epic experience will be considered
- Competency in pain management for ortho and spine patients
- Skills in respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula), IV therapy, central and peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, and dysrhythmia management
- Experience with PCA and Heparin protocols preferred
- Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced environment requiring strong pain management skills for ortho and spine patients
- Must complete EKG testing prior to start
- Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed online prior to start and annually
- Weekly orientation provided
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
- First-time travelers considered if they have Epic experience
- Local candidates accepted at a different rate within 50 miles of the facility
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility rehire approval required
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel status for this assignment
