American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN with Neuro/Stroke experience for a night shift role requiring at least two prior travel contracts and a NC or compact RN license.
Details- Med/Surg Tele unit specializing in Stroke, Neurosurgery, and other Neuro diagnoses such as Epilepsy and Traumatic/non-traumatic subdural hematomas
- 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) on the floor, though travelers are not typically trained for EMU duties
- 42 daily census with 43 total rooms/beds
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15)
- Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
- Options for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend work required, with make-up shifts required for missed weekend shifts
- Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR systems
- Active RN license (NC or Compact), pending license accepted at time of submission
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience (not Med/Surg Tele) and 1 year of Med/Surg Tele, Tele, or PCU experience
- Must have completed at least 2 successful prior travel contracts
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and cardiac monitoring with emergency response
- Experience with CVA, intracranial bleeds, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal preferred
- Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips; titration experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Provide direct patient care for stroke, neurosurgical, and other neurological diagnoses within a Med/Surg Tele unit
- 36-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation scheduling
- Navy scrubs required
- Pre-start learning modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online via Chrome or Edge, with annual renewal
- Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
- RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and is not permitted during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
- Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
- Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose one assignment type and cannot hold both simultaneously
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
