The Part-Time Retail Sales Associate plays a key role in delivering an exceptional visitor experience at Old Salem Museum and Gardens. This position works 12-20 hours weekly and is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while supporting retail operations at the Winkler Bakery. The associate assists guests, processes sales transactions, maintains merchandise displays, and ensures the retail space is welcoming and well organized.

Greet visitors warmly and provide professional, high-quality customer service.

Orient guests to Old Salem by explaining maps, historic buildings, restaurants, and special programming.

Promote ticketing opportunities, events, and current promotions.

Answer telephone inquiries and provide accurate information about events and visitor services.

Participate in interpreted public engagement events in appropriate costume or apron, as required.

Process merchandise sales accurately using a computerized sales system.

Create and maintain customer accounts, process deposits, and enter sales data.

Handle cash, checks, and credit card transactions with accuracy and discretion.

Balance cash drawers and prepare financial transaction documentation.

Deliver deposits to the Accounting Department as needed.

Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked retail space.

Assist with merchandising, product displays, and inventory restocking.

Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues across departments to enhance the visitor experience.

Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing training.

Communicate departmental concerns or issues to management in a timely manner.

Maintain flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varied schedules as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned by department leadership.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum of one (1) year of retail experience required; two (2) years preferred.

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Frequent bending, lifting, and ability to climb stairs required.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Work is primarily performed indoors in a secure environment.

May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels in open public settings.
