Maintenance/Construction Technician III (S) – Agency:

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources manages more than 100 locations across the state, including 35 state parks, recreation areas, museums, and more, with a vision to lead in using the state’s natural and cultural resources to build the social, cultural, educational, and economic future of North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities- Perform skilled tasks in trade areas such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, facility maintenance, and auto mechanics.
- Operate and repair various large and small tools and equipment.
- Purchase resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
- Maintain records and prepare operational forms.
- Assist in housekeeping.
- Supervise temporary and/or permanent employees, volunteers, and community service participants.
- Maintain preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and facilities.
- Support park rangers and maintenance staff performing custodial duties, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing, trimming, prescribed burns, and auto mechanics.
- Supervise one full‑time staff member and multiple seasonal staff.
Applicants must demonstrate experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or auto mechanics; experience in grounds maintenance/landscaping; experience in building, facility, and/or grounds maintenance equipment; ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural specifications, and building codes.
Minimum Education and ExperienceHigh school or GED diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
Position/Physical RequirementsTypical work schedule Monday to Friday 6:30 am–3:00 pm, with evenings, holidays, and/or weekends as needed. Must be able to work inside and outside in various environmental conditions. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Must provide a valid driver’s license; within 12‑24 months of hire must obtain Class A CDL, CPR Certification, Emergency Medical Responder Certification, Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications, and other specified certifications.
