Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, performs skilled and technical work in the repair, maintenance and installation of traffic signals and related control devices. Mandatory On Call and 12 hour shifts during adverse weather may be required. Does related work as required. Assists in the installation, relocation and maintenance of traffic control devices including controllers, control boxes conduits, cable ducts and signal heads; assists in the installation of traffic lights and repairs damaged lights;

wires new and old traffic lights; runs cable to controls and lights; assists in the installation of radar and sonic controls; sets and anchors poles; performs line work in the installation of signals and controls; splices cable; sets up, cleans, tests and assists in the repair and overhaul of controllers, coordinators, clocks, computers, detectors and other electrical and electronic control equipment in a shop, including solid state and electro-mechanical equipment, radar, sonic, magnetic loop and proximotor amplifiers and fire preemptors;

hooks up and checks out all new traffic control devices before placing them in operation; answers trouble calls for field repairs.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by college level courses in electrical theory and electronics and some experience in the electrical trade or electronics field.

General knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the electrical trade and the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment; comprehensive knowledge of basic electrical theory and operation of electronic equipment; comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions related to the electrical trade; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to work outside under inclement weather conditions.

Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Possession of an IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Certification required within 12 months of hire.
