The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking a Sr. Social Worker for its Adult Protective Services unit to provide protection for vulnerable adults by evaluating complaints of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
The Social Worker in this position is responsible for investigation of allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation of older adults or adults with disabilities.
Applicants must possess a level of comfort with working with vulnerable adults and a sincere interest in their care and protection. Applicants must possess the ability to react quickly to incoming reports and be efficient in maintaining case processing time frames, as well as strict adherence to statutes, policies and procedures. Individuals must possess keen assessment skills, professional judgment abilities and ethical standards.
There is a periodic need for flexibility with work hours, such as when there is immediate need to initiate an assessment toward the end of the day or if there are crisis situations. Though handling the after-hours on-call phone for Adult Protective Services or Guardianship emergencies is not required for this position at this time, Social Workers may occasionally be called after hours for consultation.
Requirements- Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience
- Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of experience in social work or counseling (Department of Social Services)
- Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience (Department of Social Services)
- Valid driver's license required
- MSW preferred
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs professional level social work by providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases that require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills.
- Performs investigations and in-depth assessments for cases involving protective services or alleged neglect or abuse.
- Serves as an expert witness at court hearings, crisis interventions, and counseling as necessary.
- Should be familiar with how to access local resources and have the ability to collaborate within the community.
