Location:
Raleigh, NC - Wake County. This is a temporary position with no leave or retirement benefits offered. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: 15.60 USD (based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). Assigned to the Department of Administration. Recurring posting for Night and Medical Courier Driver positions responsible for collecting and delivering mail across state agencies, including time-sensitive biohazard samples to the NC State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh. New driver will provide coverage for the MSC Raleigh location as well as HUB locations in Statesville, Roanoke Rapids, and Richland.
All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time. Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position to work in temporary positions. Fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative to expand a temporary's skill set for state government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agency's culture, processes, procedures, and potential learning opportunities can aid future permanent employment within the state.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Picking up and delivering time-sensitive laboratory specimens.
- Driving inner city and statewide routes using state trucks and vans. Transporting large containers of mail.
- Weighing and metering mail. Mechanical and manual sorting of large quantities of mail. Creating manifest of signature mail.
- Heavy lifting may be required.
- Sorting mail by 4-6 digit numbers and mailing codes. Bundling mail for courier route delivery. Additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to work with computers and download files.
- Ability to operate a tracking system software to track accountable mail.
- Clean and maintain work areas and equipment.
- Work during weekends and holidays as needed.
- Maintain data logs throughout routes.
High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience.
