Responsible for financial reconciliations; including balance sheet accounts, bank statements, capital assets, and cash receipts to ensure the accuracy of financial records while supporting month-end closing, audit preparation, and overall financial accountability.

The list of essential job functions is intended to represent the primary duties of the position.   • Reconciles balance sheet accounts including accounts payable, accrued wages, capital assets, debt, and assists in year-end accruals.
  • Maintains capital assets and reconciles to the General Ledger.
  • Reviews daily cash receipt batches and compares to bank reports.
  • Reconciles monthly bank statements.
  • Prepares monthly entries for interest and bank fees.
  • Monitors Utility accounts receivable and daily deposits.
  • Reviews and posts month-end closing entries.
  • Maintains thorough documentation for audit and grant purposes.
  • Cross trains in various accounting functions to provide operational support and continuity.
  • Serve as backup for assigned financial processes as needed.
  • Assists in preparing year-end audit schedules.
  • Completes special projects and process improvements initiatives as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates effective research and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to effectively utilize financial accounting system applications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Accounting experience preferably in governmental accounting or governmental auditing.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the specific requirements may be substituted.
