SUMMARY / OBJECTIVES
A Head Teller has the responsibility to take ownership of all tasks and challenges that they encounter in the operation of their assigned position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Serves customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to the South State Bank Service Standards.
- Knows and understands the products and services offered by the Bank, including facts and features, benefits and advantages, rules and regulations, price structure, and a simple definition of each service offered.
- Identifies customer needs and expectations by listening for clues.
- Seeks opportunities to expand customer relationships by making referrals as outlined in the goals for this position.
- Presents a neat and professional personal appearance, in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensures compliance with all banking regulations, including RegulationCC and Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develops a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and can discuss and enroll customers in self‑service options.
- Performs teller duties: processes transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts; maintains a neat and orderly work area; assists in guiding and training new tellers; allows customers access to safe deposit boxes; cashes checks and processes savings withdrawals within assigned limits and prescribed procedures; sells certified checks within assigned limits; balances transactions daily; may service/balance ATM; may utilize the branch capture system.
- Follows policies and procedures to minimize operational errors and maintain proper workflow.
- Follows the branch’s security and audit procedures and understands the function and operation of security devices.
- Ensures branch records, reports, and other correspondence resulting from customer development attempts are correct, timely, and properly distributed.
- Provides leadership by setting an example for the staff to follow.
- Personifies good customer relations and effective selling and cross‑selling in contacts with customers.
- Exemplifies the expectation of all staff members through actions and attitude.
- May supervise designated staff members in their daily performance of assigned tasks, impacting decisions on personnel regarding employment, performance ratings, promotions, salary, transfers, and termination.
- May resolve routine personnel problems.
- Holds relevant certifications and/or knowledge as required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience or demonstrated expertise and quality performance in all levels of teller job function and demonstrated leadership skills.
- Additional responsibilities include branch operational responsibilities such as vault and cash management duties and potentially supervising a staff of tellers.
- Typically deployed in branches with 5+ teller FTEs.

- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Cash handling, sales, customer service; previous banking experience preferred. - Specific knowledge:
Good interpersonal skills, good computer skills, ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/sit for long periods; effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations, and identify customers.
WORK ENVIRONMENTPosition most likely in an open lobby area with an individual workstation, located inside a cooled and heated facility.
TRAVELTravel may be required.
