Description

Veterinary Healthcare Associates (VHA) is seeking an experienced, people-centered HR Generalist to support the day-to-day delivery of human resources services across our growing veterinary healthcare organization.

Working closely with the Chief Humanity Officer and People & Process Manager, the HR Generalist will serve as an accessible and trusted resource for team members and leaders. This position will support employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, compliance, performance processes, HR documentation, and employee recordkeeping.

The ideal candidate combines strong HR knowledge with warmth, discretion, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to creating a workplace where people feel supported, respected, and equipped to succeed.

Employee Support and Relations

Serve as a responsive point of contact for team members regarding policies, benefits, workplace concerns, and general HR questions.

Support employee-relations matters, including gathering information, documenting conversations, and assisting with appropriate follow-up.

Help leaders navigate performance concerns, coaching conversations, corrective action, and policy application.

Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Promote consistent, equitable, and compassionate HR practices across departments.

Recruitment and Onboarding

Coordinate job postings, candidate communication, interviews, pre-employment requirements, and offer documentation.

Support background checks, drug screenings, professional credential verification, and other hiring requirements.

Prepare new-hire documentation and ensure timely completion of onboarding activities.

Partner with hiring managers to create a welcoming and organized new-team-member experience.

Assist with 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins and track identified follow-up needs.

Benefits, Leave, and HR Administration

Assist team members with benefit enrollment, eligibility questions, qualifying life events, and benefit-related concerns.

Coordinate with benefit providers, brokers, payroll partners, and other external resources as needed.

Support the administration and documentation of FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other protected or organizational leave programs.

Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records within the HRIS and HR shared-drive systems.

Prepare employment letters, status-change documentation, reports, and other HR correspondence.

Support offboarding, including separation documentation and exit-interview processes.

Performance and Compliance

Assist with annual performance evaluations, competency-based advancement programs, and compensation-change documentation.

Track required licenses, certifications, training, and employment documentation.

Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements.

Assist with workers’ compensation, benefits, and other employment-related audits.

Help maintain and update policies, procedures, templates, forms, and standard operating procedures.

Compile HR metrics and reports related to staffing, turnover, retention, onboarding, benefits, and employee experience.

Requirements

Required

Five or more years of progressive human resources experience.

Working knowledge of employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leave administration, and HR compliance.

Experience maintaining confidential employee records and documentation.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and appropriate follow-through.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with employees and leaders at all levels.

Proficiency with HR information systems and standard workplace technology.

High level of professionalism, discretion, empathy, and sound judgment.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, organizational leadership, or a related field.
