Integrative Medicine, Endowed Chair, Functional Medicine Physician (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center seek an exceptional Functional Medicine Physician to join our Center for Integrative Health, practice functional medicine, and lead the development of an innovative integrative primary care service line.

Opportunity Overview

The Center for Integrative Health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in evidence‑based integrative medicine, dedicated to advancing whole‑person care through clinical services, education, and research. As part of one of the nation’s largest academic health systems, the center brings together conventional medicine and complementary therapies to support optimal health and well‑being across the lifespan.

Position Overview

This hybrid role combines clinical practice (60%) with strategic administrative responsibilities (40%). The successful candidate will take a patient‑centered, individualized, and science‑based approach to address the root causes of chronic disease rather than managing isolated symptoms.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including detailed health histories, physical examinations, and advanced diagnostic testing to assess overall health status and identify underlying causes of disease.
  • Develop personalized, evidence‑based treatment plans that integrate conventional medicine with complementary approaches such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep optimization, and lifestyle modification.
  • Diagnose and manage patients with chronic illnesses, including heart disease, metabolic disorders, autoimmune conditions, and other complex health issues.
  • Provide patient education regarding their conditions and treatment options, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health.
  • Adapt treatment plans based on individual patient needs, goals, and response to interventions, demonstrating flexibility in clinical decision‑making.
  • Maintain comprehensive, up‑to‑date patient records to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers and clinical support staff to deliver integrated, coordinated care.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Practice functional medicine and lead the development of an integrative primary care service line.
  • Develop clinical protocols and evidence‑based guidelines for the service line, including a sustainable financial model.
  • Design and implement comprehensive patient assessment and treatment frameworks that combine functional medicine principles with conventional medical standards.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including scheduling, patient record management, and communication with patients and referring providers.
  • Oversee quality assurance and patient satisfaction metrics for the new service line.
  • Participate in staff training and education to ensure consistent delivery of functional medicine principles across the team.
  • Collaborate with center leadership to establish operational procedures, resource allocation, and strategic goals for service line growth.
  • Contribute to research, quality improvement initiatives, and outcomes tracking to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrative primary care.
  • Mentor clinical and administrative staff in functional medicine approaches and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
  • License or license‑eligible in the state of Ohio.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Certification in Functional Medicine (IFMCP).
  • Minimum 3+ years of clinical experience in primary care or related field.
