Burckhardt Compression is developing a modern, globally integrated Legal & Compliance organization to support its growing international business.

Legal Counsel (Regulatory & Commercial)

to join our office in Milan, Italy.

This is a key role within the Legal & Compliance function, with significant global exposure.

You will work closely with the General Counsel, the Data Protection Officer, Sustainability/ESG teams, Group Procurement, global Sales, and colleagues across our markets, in particular in European, Asian, and American locations.

Your Responsibilities Regulatory & Compliance Focus (60–75%)

You will take a leading role in global regulatory matters, including:

  • Regulatory monitoring and implementation: tracking legal developments in key jurisdictions and translating them into pragmatic guidance for the business;
  • Sanctions compliance: advising on jurisdiction‑specific sanctions regulation, third-party screenings, restricted‑party questions, and escalation processes;
  • Sustainability & ESG regulations: supporting the Group's work on supply-chain due diligence, reporting obligations, supply‑chain transparency, and human‑rights topics;
  • Data protection (GDPR and non‑EU frameworks): supporting the Group DPO with privacy governance, DPIAs, data ‑ processing agreements, and international data transfer topics;
  • Training & awareness: designing and delivering training on regulatory topics.
Commercial & Corporate Work (25–40%)

You will support the business with:

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating international commercial contracts (T&Cs, supply and service agreements, cooperation agreements, etc.);
  • Providing concise, practical legal advice to the business worldwide;
  • Supporting global projects and selected corporate matters;
  • Supporting external counsel management and, where required, litigation coordination;
  • Supporting internal audits and risk assessments;
  • You will collaborate closely with our existing Milan Legal Counsel (commercial focus) while bringing complementary regulatory depth to the team.
Your Profile
  • Legal degree (Bachelor or Master of Laws); no bar qualification required;
  • 7–10+ years of experience as in‑house counsel or in private practice in an industrial, energy, engineering, or infrastructure environment;
  • Strong experience in regulatory areas: data protection, trade/sanctions compliance, ESG/sustainability, or similar fields;
  • Solid experience in reviewing and negotiating international commercial contracts;
  • Ability to translate complex regulations into clear, practical, business‑oriented guidance;
  • Experience working in multinational settings and across jurisdictions;
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and sound judgment;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders;
  • High curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to grow into new legal fields as regulations evolve;
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage;
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
