We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for a locums Thoracic Surgery position in Boston, MA. This is a night-shift, inpatient-focused opportunity providing coverage for a thoracic surgery service during atemporary maternity leave. The PA will work primarily with postoperative patients on the floor, step-down unit, OR recovery, and ICU.
Compensation:$130- $140 Per Hour

The locums PA will function as the primary overnight APP for the thoracic surgery service and will primarily care for postoperative and critically ill patients. Responsibilities include:
- Rounding on approximately 15–25 patients per shift
- Managing patients on the floor, step-down unit, and ICU following surgery
- Evaluating and managing postoperative thoracic surgery patients
- Chest tube,Blake drain, and pigtail catheter management
- Patient assessment and treatment planning
- Performing admissions and H&Ps for patients transferred from other hospitals
- Completing the initial evaluation of transferred patients, with follow-up by the daytime team
- Responding tourgent clinical issues and serving as a potential first responder to codes until the appropriate team member arrives
Collaborating with the overnight thoracic surgery fellow, who is available as a clinical resource and can assist during periods of high patient volume
Experience with the following is highly beneficial:
- Chest tube/Blake drain/pigtail management
- Arterial blood gases (ABG)
- Nasogastric tubes (NGT)
- G-tubes and J-tubes/feeding tubes
- Postoperative thoracic surgery care
- ICU and step-down patient management
An overnight thoracic surgery fellow is available as a resource and assists with the ER,rounds, and consultations. The PA may initially respond to urgent events while awaiting the fellow. A dedicated hospital code team is also available for emergencies.
Requirements- NCCPA Board Certification required
- Minimum 1 year of experience
- ACLS required
- BLS required
- DEA required
