The Wood County Human Services Department is seeking an Accounting Assistant to support accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and reporting. The role reports to the Administrative Services Assistant Manager.

Wage as of 7/1/26: $24.21 to $27.40/hr

GENERAL FUNCTION

Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger journal entries, compiling information to complete reports and monthly reconciliation of various general ledger accounts, and state reports. Works closely with the Administrative Services Assistant Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Utilize Excel, Word, and other agency software to create and maintain personal computer programs, reports, and processes required by the Department.
  • Enter prepared journal entries into the county’s General Ledger for Human Services Community Operations.
  • Prepare and enter approved vouchers for payment into the Accounts Payable system for weekly payments to department vendors, ensuring proper documentation and vendor set‑up.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly and maintain tracking reports for the various accounts and processes.
  • Review and process monthly revenue and adjustment integrations between Department Electronic Health Records Software and General Ledger.
  • Review payroll report entries to General Ledger for accuracy.
  • Enter cash receipts into the County’s General Ledger for Human Services Community operations.
  • Assist in preparing monthly and annual reports mandated by state and local government agencies.
  • Create and maintain job processes as necessary.
  • Use and practice the Safety policies of the County, performing all job tasks safely.

  • B. OTHER JOB DUTIES
  • Assist in data entry to the annual operating budget.
  • Assist and prepare year‑end work papers as assigned for various Community Operations.
  • Participate in cross training for Human Services programs as assigned.
  • Provide customer service and reception coverage as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Associate Degree in Accounting or Business‑related field.
    • Two to three years of bookkeeping experience desired.
    • Proficient skill with Excel spreadsheets required.
    • Familiarity with General Ledger software and the public sector is a plus.
    • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and pay attention to detail.
    • Basic everyday living skills and the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
    • Reading, writing, arithmetic required for maintaining and creating various reports, data entry, and general bookkeeping.
    • Maintaining confidentiality is critical.
