Job Summary

In this role at Alliant Energy, you'll combine data and software tools with personal observations and conversations to identify where the electric distribution grid needs attention and to prioritize those potential projects. From reliability rebuilds to modernization upgrades to distributed automation, you'll be leading the design work and then staying involved all the way through field construction and operation. You'll collaborate across teams, learn quickly with experienced oversight, and help improve grid reliability and resiliency in ways that you and your neighbors actually see and feel.

What You Will Do
  • Follow safety rules and practices to identify and correct unsafe conditions for self and team, and make safety suggestions to assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Learn basic customer needs and expectations and strive to identify system problems and solutions within assigned work with guidance.
  • Apply regulatory and organizational engineering standards, processes, and procedures to solve limited‑scope problems.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of electric utility system operations and maintenance practices with a focus on reliability and resiliency.
  • Communicate and build relationships with employees, business unit stakeholders, and contractors.
  • Learn how the utility business operates with particular emphasis on operations.
  • Offer recommendations that are technically sound and cost‑effective for specific problems.
  • Develop simple solutions to a system problem, including scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • Perform or support basic engineering design and specification of protective microprocessor relay schemes, devices, and settings to ensure protection of distribution and generation systems, and perform power system studies, protection settings coordination, and SCADA programming up to 345‑kV.
  • Provide technical support to field personnel during system disturbances or outages.
  • Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s values.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Engineering program.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous technical and/or professional experience.
  • An internship or co‑op in engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range

$75,000–$85,000. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
