Role Description

Midwest Star Group is seeking a highly capable, operationally minded Director of Accounting and Finance to lead and strengthen the company’s accounting and finance function. This role is ideal for a professional with strong accounting depth, financial analysis capability, and a proven track record of making accounting systems more efficient, streamlined, accurate, and useful to the business.

The Director of Accounting and Finance will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while also delivering meaningful financial insight to support leadership decision-making. This individual must be process-driven, detail-oriented, and able to build structure, improve workflows, and connect accounting outputs to operational realities across the business. Strong Quick Books Online experience is required, along with demonstrated skill in budgeting, GAAP-based accounting, flux analysis, cash flow analysis, problem solving, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the accounting and finance function, including general ledger accuracy, month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and maintenance of sound internal processes.
  • Manage and improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting structures to create a more efficient, streamlined, and operationally effective finance function.
  • Own and maintain accounting records in accordance with GAAP and ensure timely, accurate, and decision-useful financial information.
  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including development of annual budgets, periodic reforecasts, variance analysis, and departmental financial support.
  • Perform and present monthly flux and variance analysis, identifying operational drivers, accounting issues, emerging trends, and areas requiring management attention.
  • Prepare and analyze cash flow forecasts, working capital needs, and liquidity trends, and provide practical recommendations to support financial stability and growth.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to improve reporting visibility, strengthen accountability, and connect financial data to business performance.
  • Identify accounting process breakdowns, inefficiencies, and reporting gaps, and implement solutions that improve timeliness, consistency, and reliability.
  • Support audit readiness, lender reporting, tax support coordination, and other financial compliance or external reporting needs as required.
  • Oversee balance sheet integrity, revenue and expense classification, accruals, fixed asset treatment, and other key accounting judgments.
  • Develop, refine, and document accounting policies, procedures, controls, and best practices to support scalability and consistency.
  • Lead problem solving around accounting discrepancies, system issues, process failures, data inconsistencies, and cross-functional reporting challenges.
  • Provide leadership in transitioning accounting from a transactional function to a more disciplined, analytical, and operationally aligned business partner.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or advanced accounting/finance credentials preferred.
  • Strong accounting and financial analysis background, with progressive responsibility in accounting leadership, controllership, finance leadership, or similar roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with Quick Books Online required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement presentation.
