The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher – Food Service Assistant & Bakery position. This position is based out of Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, WI (Jackson County).
Position SummaryThis teacher will develop, implement and conduct professional educational services to persons in our care (residents/students) in order to meet their individual academic and/or vocational needs in Food Service Assistant & Bakery Vocational Programming.
This position will complete required documentation of student assessment/progress, monitor and manage student behavior, attend staffing and meetings, and serve on inter‑ and intra‑disciplinary teams.
This teacher will also provide training to others and engage in specialized instruction and institution committee/projects to financially support and sustain funding for the Training Kitchen upon request.
Salary InformationThis position is in pay schedule and range 13‑04 with a starting pay of $31.01/hour – $35.06/hour
. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.
This position may receive supplemental (add‑on) pay adjustments for additional credits relevant to the position that are over and above the credits needed for certification. This add‑on ranges from $0.97/hour to $2.97/hour of additional pay, based on relevant credits and professional development actions, as allowed in Section A (4.12) of the Compensation Plan.
Substantial leave time including at least 3.5 weeks of vacation to start, 9 paid holidays, and ample accrued sick time that rolls over each year.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree (any area of study) with two years of occupational experience (4000 hours) in Food Service and/or Bakery.
- Associate’s Degree (any area of study) with seven years of occupational experience (14,000 hours) in Food Service and/or Bakery.
- Individuals hired without a Bachelor’s Degree must work to obtain one while employed in this role, meeting progress requirements set by the instructor and Education Director (typically 6 credits per year).
- Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.
- Employees required to obtain a Serv Safe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) within six months of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand and move freely. It includes preparing food, inspecting sanitation, manipulating fine objects, operating appliances, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally climbing stairs may be required.
Schedule & TravelAnticipated schedule will be Monday–Friday 7:45 AM–4:30 PM. This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but occasional travel may occur for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.
