Mechanical Project Engineer
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team in designing and delivering custom food processing equipment. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working closely with project managers and end-users to bring innovative machinery to life.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design custom food processing equipment using 3D Solid Works CAD
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure designs meet project timelines, budgets, and customer specifications
- Interface directly with customer end-users to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure satisfaction
- Develop detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs, and documentation for manufacturing
- Support the build and assembly process by working closely with shop floor personnel
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during fabrication and installation
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and industry regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education, Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in custom machinery or food processing equipment
- Proficiency in Solid Works (3D modeling and drafting)
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, and automation principles
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Experience with project-based engineering and manufacturing environments
- Customer focused, self-starter
- Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment with varied temperature conditions
- Engage and follow up with customers
Preferred Qualifications, Skills
- Experience in the food processing industry
- Familiarity with sanitary design principles and FDA/USDA requirements
- Knowledge of fabrication processes including welding, machining, and sheet metal
- Exposure to ERP systems and project tracking tools
