Sr Cost Analyst

We are looking for a Sr Cost Analyst to strengthen financial planning and cost visibility for our retail operations in Sauk County, Wisconsin. This position plays a key role in evaluating product and operational expenses, translating data into practical insights, and helping business partners make informed decisions. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical ability with sound cost accounting knowledge to improve forecasting accuracy, support profitability, and identify opportunities for greater operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage annual cost budgets and recurring forecasts for products and operational cost centers, ensuring assumptions are aligned with business performance.
  • Examine standard, budgeted, and actual cost results to uncover significant variances, determine underlying causes, and present actionable findings.
  • Prepare cost estimates for new items and assess the financial effect of changes in design, raw materials, sourcing, and distribution across existing products.
  • Collaborate with Operations to evaluate cost risks and savings opportunities, then monitor initiatives aimed at improving margins and reducing spend.
  • Maintain product costing data by reviewing standard costs, validating bill of materials accuracy, and supporting consistent cost structures.
  • Review monthly purchase price fluctuations, explain their impact on product costs, and recommend corrective actions when needed.
  • Contribute to monthly planning activities by supplying cost analysis that supports sales, operations, and inventory decision-making.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including inventory analysis, expense review, reconciliations, audit support, and related accounting entries.
  • Oversee inventory valuation matters, support physical inventory counts, and evaluate the cost impact of capital expenditures and supplier-related charges.
  • Identify and implement improvements to costing and reporting processes while providing ad hoc analysis and guidance to internal stakeholders.
