The Oconomowoc Police Department is now accepting applications for a seasonal part-time Boat Patrol Officer. This position offers flexible shifts totaling 8 patrol hours per week, scheduled across 2 to 3 weekdays. Shifts rotate Monday through Friday any time after 1:00 p.m., depending on lake activity and staffing needs. The department is happy to work with the officer’s schedule as long as adequate lake coverage is maintained.
Sworn officer status and boating experience are required.
Salary/Wage: $55.00 to $70.00 per hour based on experience.
Job SummarySworn police officer performing law enforcement functions on the lakes of Oconomowoc. Primary enforcement of the Chapter 30 WI Statutes pertaining to boating and local lake ordinances. Focuses on community policing and educating the public on water safety. Monitors activities on the lakes.
- Community policing and patrol of local Oconomowoc lakes.
- Educating the public on water safety.
- Protects marine resources, lake property, and the public.
- Enforces State and local ordinances.
- Investigates complaints and incidents on the lake.
- Performs related work as required.
- Certified Police Officer in the State of Wisconsin.
- Proficient boating and boat trailer experience.
- Age
- At least eighteen (18) years of age - Height/Weight-Proportionate
- Vision-Corrected in each eye to 20/20 and normal color perception
- Hearing-Hearing loss outside the normal range is unacceptable
- Citizenship-Must be a United States citizen
- Residency-Must become a Wisconsin resident at date of employment Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern policing and boating.
- A working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the department.
- Knowledge of police science and police operations as applied to boat patrol, crime prevention, investigation, traffic control, and the various functional services utilized in police operations.
- Ability to properly use police records.
- Proficient boating and boat trailering skills.
- Skills to meet the standards of quality police work.
- Ability to command the respect of the department personnel and to get along with others.
- Capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Good judgement, thoroughness, dependability, leadership.
- Be in good physical condition.
