Job Summary:
This position provides respite and supportive services to caregivers of Elders by offering short-term relief and assistance in the home. The Respite Provider works primarily in the homes of Elders, supporting caregivers through light household tasks, meal preparation, companionship, and general support to help maintain a safe and comfortable environment. This position is also responsible for maintaining accurate service documentation, time tracking, and basic data entry required for program monitoring and reporting.
Additional duties may include assisting with or facilitating caregiver support groups and activities that promote caregiver wellness, while providing services in a respectful, confidential, and culturally appropriate manner.

Provide in-home respite services for caregivers of Elders by offering temporary relief and supportive assistance in the home environment.Support Elders with light household tasks, including cleaning, organizing, meal preparation, and other non-medical supportive activities as appropriate.Provide companionship and social interaction to Elders, including visiting, conversation, and presence to promote comfort, safety, and well-being.Provide services in a patient, respectful, and non-judgmental manner to support trust-building with Elders and caregivers over time.Work respectfully with caregivers to help reduce stress and caregiver burden while maintaining professional boundaries.Accurately document services provided, including service logs, time tracking, and required data entry for program monitoring and reporting.Maintain confidentiality of Elder and caregiver information in accordance with Tribal policies and applicable regulations.Assist with planning, coordinating, or facilitating caregiver support groups, gatherings, or wellness activities as assigned.Collaborate with Elderly Services staff and other Red Cliff departments to support coordinated care, referrals, and services for Elders and caregivers.Communicate regularly with the supervisor and appropriate program staff regarding schedules, service needs, concerns, and program activities.Follow established program guidelines, safety procedures, and cultural protocols while working in Elder's homes and community settings.Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility to meet the needs of Elders, caregivers, and program operations.Typical Qualifications
Knowledge:
This position requires knowledge of caregiving needs for Elders and an understanding of the challenges faced by family and informal caregivers, including hesitation or reluctance to accept assistance. Knowledge of approaches that are patient, non-judgmental, and centered on building trust and comfort over time is important. Familiarity with tribal communities and an understanding of how cultural, social, and historical factors influence caregiving, independence, and Elder well-being is essential.
Additionally, knowledge of community resources, confidentiality expectations, and accurate service documentation practices is required.
Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma, HSED, or GED preferred.Experience working with Elders, caregivers, families, or community members in a supportive or service-based role preferred.Ability to work patiently, respectfully, and non-judgmentally with Elders and caregivers who may be hesitant to accept assistance.Demonstrated ability to build trust, help individuals feel comfortable, and provide support with compassion, perseverance, and professionalism.Ability to maintain accurate service logs, time tracking, and basic documentation as required.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and effectively with Elderly Services staff and other Red Cliff departments.Strong communication skills, including the ability to follow direction, report concerns, and interact respectfully with Elders, caregivers, staff, and community members.Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Ojibwe culture, traditions, and the unique strengths and needs of the Red Cliff community.Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow Tribal policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and appropriate vehicle coverage as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the Tribe's vehicle insurance policy.Supplemental Information
