JOB TITLE:
Phase Group Counselor

REPORTS TO:

Program Director

SCHEDULE:

THURSDAYS 5:45PM-8PM AND OPTION TO FILL IN OPEN COUNSELING SESSIONS

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Phase Group Counselor plays an important role in supporting individuals throughout their recovery journey in a residential substance use treatment program. This position leads structured groups, encourages participation in program activities, and helps residents build the skills, confidence, and accountability needed to maintain recovery and achieve personal goals. The Phase Group Counselor serves as a positive role model, provides encouragement and guidance, and helps foster a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused community.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to support clients in overcoming substance use disorders.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Monitor and uphold facility safety protocols to create a secure and supportive environment for residents.
  • Facilitate recovery-focused groups that promote personal growth, life skills, relapse prevention, and healthy decision‑making.
  • Support residents as they progress through program phases and work toward individual recovery goals.
  • Encourage active participation in treatment, peer support, recovery meetings, and other program activities.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries and program expectations.
  • Serve as a role model for recovery, accountability, respect, and healthy living.
  • Communicate resident concerns, progress, and significant observations to the treatment team and supervisors.
  • Complete required documentation and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment that promotes recovery and community living.
Requirements
  • Candidates with lived expertise are encouraged to apply, if in recovery
  • Must possess a valid MA driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass MA CORI and Drug Testing requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and committed to adhering to, federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, & boundaries.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personal characteristics of understanding, dedication, empathy and genuineness are essential.
Desired Skills
  • Familiarity with 12-Step programs and their application in recovery.
  • Understanding of confidentiality laws and ethical guidelines in counseling.
