Join our growing team! The Maintenance Department is looking to add another Maintenance Technician in 2026.
SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Facilities Director, the technician conducts interior and exterior cleaning and general maintenance work of the Courthouse Complex and grounds. Performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintains and makes operating repairs to plumbing, heating, air conditioning, fire alarm system, and electrical equipment.
- Makes adjustments and repairs; and assists in checking, repairing and lubricating various machines, equipment, and appliances.
- Performs general cleaning duties including power washing jail cells; cleans, scrubs, waxes, and vacuums floors; and washes windows.
- Performs carpentry and painting work.
- Performs grounds work including cutting grass, fertilizing and weed spraying of lawn, trimming shrubs, raking, snow removal and application of ice melt.
- Performs a variety of building custodial activities including unlocking and securing building.
- Assists departments with assembling and moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies.
- Picks up and delivers mail to the post office.
- Stocks and collects money from soda machines.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
- Assists with maintenance functions required for upkeep and operation of all County buildings and grounds.
- Maintains the Courthouse Complex and grounds in the absence of the Facilities Director.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis job has no supervisory responsibilities but coordinates, trains and provides work direction to other maintenance staff and may provide direction to contracted workers, in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.

Education and/or ExperienceOne year certificate from college or technical school in building maintenance; four to five years experience in building cleaning and maintenance work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the County.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsPossession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required.

On-call for weekend rotation for snow removal and remains on call twenty-four hours a day for emergency repairs during the absence of the Facilities Director.

- Thorough knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance materials and equipment.
- Some knowledge of the tools and methods used in various mechanical and building trades.
- Some knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
- Ability to use power and hand tools.
- Ability to learn and utilize computerized equipment including energy management system.
- Ability to work independently and establish and meet work deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor and routine cleaning tasks.
