Duties
Work includes reconnaissance, planning, budgeting, scheduling, environmental coordination and negotiations, scopes of work for the formulation of plans and specifications, and the identification and prioritization of support work by others.
Carries out both navigation project planning and execution duties.
The incumbent serves as the primary focal point and interface with customers, agencies, and the general public for assigned projects.
Responsibilities also include maintenance of commercial and recreational harbors, as funds and national priority allows.
Major program components include hydrographic surveying, dredging, dredged material management, snag removal, channel control structure management, realignment of navigation aids, and application of hydraulic principles.
Directs the deployment of hired labor and contract dredging equipment that may involve the simultaneous operation of several dredges and includes both mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
Projects must be maintained in a highly sensitive environment with natural resources of national and international significance.
