Direct Labor I

The Direct Labor I role is responsible for performing various production tasks to ensure efficient and safe operations within the manufacturing environment. This role requires individuals to follow the production schedule, adhere to quality standards, and support various assembly and packaging functions. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced setting, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and operate a variety of tools and machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote and support the Company's mission, vision, values, and goals.
  • Wear proper PPE equipment as required for the area.
  • Report to and be ready to work at the scheduled start time on a consistent basis.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed to maintain a safe work environment for self and team members.
  • Ability to accurately read tape measures, caliper, and follow dimensional requirements as outlined in work orders. On the job training provided if necessary.
  • Follow a production schedule to meet deadlines and achieve production goals.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure products meet company standards. Identify defects and resolve or report issues as needed.
  • Identify and distinguish between different cabinet/table components and wood types, such as maple, oak, and birch, including labeling and apply this knowledge to the production process.
  • Ability to follow work instructions to complete assigned tasks.
  • Participate in cross-training for various tasks to ensure flexibility in work assignments for meeting customers' orders and delivering on time.
  • Operate floor jacks, scissor lift table, and secondary machinery as required for the handling and movement of materials.
  • Perform basic computer functions for production and inventory needs.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities such as 5S, Kaizen, and One-Piece Flow for focus on elimination of waste.
  • Basic blueprint reading, understanding components and fit for assembly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional duties depend on department assigned:

Material Processing

  • Operate hand tools and industrial woodworking machinery for processing wood components.
  • Change basic machine parts that do not require special adjustments (e.g., drill bits, saw blades).
  • Coordinate material handling per production batch requirements.
  • Perform start up and shut down to procedure.

Finishing

  • Operate hand tools and industrial woodworking machinery for finishing wood components.
  • Handling product and performing quality checks on product.
  • Prepare surfaces for finishing by sanding, filling imperfections and ensuring a smooth and even surface.
  • Apply basic finishes such as sealer, varnish, stain, and other finishes to cabinets.
  • Perform start up and shut down to procedure.

Final Assembly

  • Assemble, package, various elements of cabinetry according to verbal instructions, hands on and/or in written form, with use of power and hand tools i.e. drills, hammer, air tools, wrapping equipment.
  • Ensure all loose hardware is packaged correctly and including photos for documentation.

Tables

  • Assemble, package, various elements of tables according to instructions verbal, hands on and/or in written form, with use of power and hand tools i.e. drills, hammer, air tools, wrapping equipment.
  • Ensure all loose hardware is packaged correctly and including photos for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

Some High School Education

Experience and/or Training:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in continuous improvement

Licenses/Certificates:
None

Technology/Equipment:
Working knowledge of computers

Physical and Mental Demands:

Standing for the working hours of each shift, 8 + hours daily. Walking in the Production department to different areas of work. Speaking, hearing, seeing. Listen and observe the environment for hazard prevention. Use hands for tools. Regularly lift 30-50 lbs. throughout shift. Team-lift as specified by leadership. Employees may perform tasks that require bending, twisting, and turning frequently.
