The Plant Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the plant operations including production, cost, quality, and safety of the facility. The Plant Manager has accountability for the achievement of the plant’s performance objectives and budgets through implementation of lean manufacturing practices and quality improvement strategies that will reduce costs and improve productivity to achieve best-in-class customer satisfaction while growing revenue and profitability.
Responsibilities- Direct operations to ensure production schedules and customer requirements are met.
- Manage and monitor production costs to estimated standards and implement strategies to increase gross margin.
- Monitor and measure departmental performance and efficiencies; actively seek employee involvement for cost improvement strategies.
- Create and sustain a culture of continuous improvement that improves long term and day-to-day performance in downtime reduction, waste reduction, improvement of throughput, and reduction of errors.
- Champion and reinforce quality initiatives to ensure continuous improvement and reduction of process variation; utilize and reinforce use of the company’s quality systems.
- Model and reinforce OEM’s vision and values.
- Create strategic plans and capital justifications to ensure operations are aligned with the overall company mission and strategic plans.
- Create and sustain a culture where safety is the highest priority. Ensure compliance with safety/environment regulations and promote effective housekeeping in support of a safe work environment.
- Champion a culture of best-in-class customer satisfaction across all functions of the plant.
- Interact with customers as required.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair schedules to ensure compliance.
- Provide for the training and development of subordinates at all levels; develop succession plans for critical, skilled, and management positions.
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in engineering or related field, or equivalent relevant experience and education.
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience with 6+ years of progressively responsible manufacturing management experience, preferably in metal fabrication in a job shop environment.
- Proven ability to implement total quality systems and lean manufacturing, including such initiatives as statistical process control, six sigma, systems theory, kan ban, kaizan, and 5-S.
- Demonstrated ability to act as an effective change agent with a history of measurable accomplishments.
- A people-centric, manufacturing management style with strong leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent financial, analytic, and problem solving skills.
- Professional level communications skills, including the ability to act as the company spokesperson in the local community.
