Overview

Quality Inspector at Blue Scope works under limited supervision to perform quality inspections and tests on all products. Inspectors use a variety of measurement, verification, and testing tools and monitor repairs that arise during manufacturing. Primary responsibilities focus on upstream processes outside of the hand weld bay, including bar lines, plasmas, detail parts, panels, secondary operations, trim, and shipping, in alignment with safety, environmental, quality, and core policies as part of the Zero Harm and Zero Defects commitments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate product and process inspections.
  • Troubleshoot daily issues impacting part quality.
  • Assist in maintaining quality through training of new and existing Machine Operators and Welders.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and corrective action activities.
  • Perform housekeeping, 5-S, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    High school diploma or equivalent, or attainment of ACT Work Keys Assessment at certified job profile skill level.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Research and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to work and learn independently.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, fabrication drawings, and DRWs.
  • Understanding of weld defects and flaws common to gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW) as outlined in AWS D1.1.
  • Working knowledge of weld measuring devices and inspection/testing techniques; familiarity with outside codes, standards, testing procedures, processes, and shop practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret weld symbols and commonly used industry terminology.
