Location: Mellen

CFP is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician to join our Maintenance team. This role requires a hands‑on professional with expertise in electrical controls, power distribution up to 480 V and automated systems. The candidate must be willing to spend time learning new systems and technologies as they become available. This position will support plant electricians and millwrights, serving as a resource for solving complex electrical and mechanical failures.

You will use PLCs and automated systems as diagnostic tools to help the maintenance teams keep the plant running safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical systems troubleshooting and maintenance:
    • Repair electrical system failures as they arise
    • Provide root‑cause analysis to prevent reoccurrences
    • Use electrical test equipment to monitor and analyze normal operation for preventive maintenance
    • Use PLCs to monitor systems and diagnose electrical problems
    • Replace failing PLC components and update as needed
    • Update PLC systems when equipment reaches end of service
    • Install and program new PLC equipment for production purposes
  • Electrical panel design and fabrication (Capital X Panel Designer):
    • Use electrical design software to design systems before building
    • Modify blueprints as modifications are made
    • Build electrical panels to suit production needs
  • Mechanical systems:
    • Understand hydraulic and pneumatic systems to diagnose electrical failures
    • Apply mechanical design knowledge to electrical system operation
    • Use electrical systems to safely control energy forms
  • Machine safety:
    • Maintain and routinely test electrical safety controls throughout the plant
    • Repair or replace non‑compliant systems when failures are identified
    • Provide electrical safety devices and systems to reduce employee exposure
  • VFD and servo drives:
    • Replace and reprogram servo and VFD drives as they fail or age out
    • Use software to monitor and troubleshoot intermittent VFD issues
    • Identify end‑of‑life systems and replace as part of a preventive maintenance program
  • Network:
    • Maintain plant and PLC networks as needed
    • Repair or replace network components under IT direction
    • Install network cables per IT or PLC network requirements
    • Manage the PLC network entirely
  • Electrical power design and installation:
    • Safely power all equipment required by production
    • Design conduit runs, cabling, and terminations
    • Lead electrical crews in installing these systems
  • Training and research:
    • Provide advanced training in electrical system design, maintenance, and troubleshooting
    • Identify third‑party training opportunities to improve team performance
    • Maintain knowledge of new technologies and research utilization opportunities
Qualifications

Associate’s degree in electrical automation preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered. Minimum combination of 5 years combined experience and schooling is required.

Journeyman electrician license required; master’s license or ability to obtain within one year of hire required.

High level of expertise with Rockwell software (RS Logix 5000, Studio, RS Linx and RS Logix 500).

High level of expertise in design and maintenance of electrical power systems up to 480 V.

High level of expertise in installation and maintenance of VFD and servo drives.

Proficient in electrical design software for documenting new system designs.
