Journeyman Lineman

The City of Wisconsin Dells is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This position assists in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the City's electrical power distribution and does work necessary to ensure the system operates reliably. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7am to 4pm. This position starts at: $48.67ph and offers a full benefit package including Wisconsin State Retirement, paid Vacation, Sick Time, 11 paid Holidays and generous Health Insurance benefits.

Applicants must have Journeyman certification to be considered for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of electric distribution systems.
  • Assists with the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system both above and below ground.
  • Assist with maintenance of street lighting.
  • Performs hot line work from a bucket truck or on a pole with climbing equipment.
  • Assist with construction and maintenance of water system.
  • Conducts sub-station switching and operations
  • Assists in maintenance of trucks and equipment.
  • Assists with inventory control.
  • Understands and follows proper safety protocol and procedures.
  • Attends proper training.
  • Tree trimming around power lines.
  • Other assignments as directed by the Lead Lineman or the Director of Public Works.
Qualifications
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License and CDL
  • Valid Journeyman Lineman Card
  • Lineman continuing education/safety programs
  • Any combination of experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

  • Night vision (the ability to operate a vehicle at night and do emergency repairs at night).
  • Lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Handling and manipulating objects with hands; holding, grasping or controlling with hands.
  • Working with fingers to pick, pinch or press.

Vacation: 1 week after 6 months of service. 1 week after 12 months of service. 2 weeks after 2 years of service. 3 weeks after 7 years of service. 4 weeks after 10 years of service. Years of Service at WRS agencies will be credited to the Vacation schedule. Sick Leave: 8 hours of sick leave earned each month. Unused sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 480 hours (12 weeks).

Paid Holidays:
Eleven paid holidays:
New Year's Day, Easter (Good Friday), Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and 1 Personal Holiday. Health Insurance:
The city participates in the Wisconsin State Health Plan. The city contributes 88% of the lowest plan rate available toward the employee's chosen health plan. The employee is responsible for the balance of the insurance premium through a payroll deduction. Under IRS Section 106, employee contributions are taken out pre-taxed. Medical co-pays are $60 for the emergency room and 20% for any durable medical equipment.

The city will reimburse the employee for two ER co-pays per year and all DME co-pays. Prescription Coverage:
Co-pays vary. Dental Insurance:
Employees are eligible to enroll in dental insurance, however premiums are paid 100% by the employee. AFLAC:
While providing a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan for the city, AFLAC offers supplemental cancer, accident, disability and other supplemental insurance. Premiums are paid for by the employee through a payroll deduction. A Flexible Spending Account is also available under Section 105 which allows the employee to use pre-taxed dollars for out of pocket qualifying expenses. Life Insurance:
The city participates in the Wisconsin Public Employers Group Life Insurance Program. Premiums are based on the employee's age and coverage amount. Premiums are paid for by the employee through a payroll deduction. Spouse and dependent life insurance is also available. Wisconsin Retirement:
The city participates in the Wisconsin Retirement System. 457 Deferred Compensation Plan:
The city offers a deferred compensation plan for additional retirement savings. It is administered by VOYA Financial Services and contributions are made by the employee through a payroll deduction. There is no city contribution for this program as it is a voluntary employee option. Clothing Allowance:
Varies by department.
