Job Description

Job Description

Solve Mechanical Problems. Build Things Right.

Some mechanics enjoy replacing parts. Others enjoy figuring out why equipment failed, building the correct solution, and putting the machine back to work.

We're looking for the second type.

At PIRTEK Milwaukee Area, you'll solve hydraulic problems on construction equipment, manufacturing machinery, trucks, agricultural equipment, and industrial systems. Every day presents a different repair, but the goal is always the same:

  • Diagnose the problem.
  • Build the correct hose assembly.
  • Fix it right the first time.

If you're the mechanic that people come to when they can't figure something out, we'd like to talk.

About PIRTEK Milwaukee Area

PIRTEK is the nation's leading provider of on-site hydraulic hose replacement and industrial fluid transfer solutions.

Our technicians work independently from fully equipped service vehicles, providing emergency repairs and preventative service throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

We're a locally owned business that believes skilled trades deserve quality equipment, fair pay, and leaders who understand field service.

What You’ll Do

As a Field Service Mechanic, you'll troubleshoot hydraulic failures and perform on-site repairs for customers across southeastern Wisconsin.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Diagnose hydraulic hose and fitting failures
  • Determine the correct replacement components
  • Build hydraulic hose assemblies using professional crimping equipment
  • Install and test completed repairs
  • Explain repairs to customers in a professional manner
  • Inspect surrounding hydraulic components and identify potential future failures
  • Maintain inventory on your service vehicle
  • Complete service documentation using company software
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with additional compensation

A Typical Day

Most days begin from your home or the shop with a fully stocked service vehicle.

Throughout the day you'll:

  • Travel to customer locations
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic failures
  • Measure and fabricate replacement hoses
  • Install and pressure test repairs
  • Return equipment to service safely
  • Document the work completed
  • Move to your next service call

Every repair is different.

The process remains consistent.

If you enjoy diagnosing problems instead of simply replacing parts, this is rewarding work.

Paid for Every Hour You Work

We believe mechanics should be paid fairly.

Our technicians average between $29 and $40 per hour when, commissions, and on-call pay are included.

We offer:

  • Time-and-a-half after 8 hours worked in a day
  • Double time after 10 hours worked in a day
  • On-call pay
  • Commission opportunities
  • Company-provided service vehicle

If the day runs longer because the customer needs you, you get paid accordingly.

Quality Matters Here

We're not looking for the fastest mechanic.

We're looking for the mechanic who wants to do the repair correctly.

The people who succeed here:

  • Think through problems before replacing parts
  • Take pride in clean workmanship
  • Care about accuracy
  • Want repairs to last
  • Continue learning their trade

Hydraulic experience is helpful, but mechanical ability and the willingness to learn are far more important.

You’ll Probably Enjoy This Job If You...

  • Like solving mechanical problems
  • Enjoy working with your hands
  • Prefer working independently
  • Take pride in quality workmanship
  • Notice details that others overlook
  • Like becoming an expert in your trade
  • Enjoy variety without sacrificing process
  • Would rather fix equipment than sit behind a desk

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Basic hand tools
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to safely operate a commercial service vehicle

Hydraulic experience is preferred but not required. We'll teach hydraulics. We can't teach mechanical curiosity.
