BH Social Worker I​/II​/III

Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Manager or Children's Support Services Supervisor, or MHP/Clinic Coordinator, the Behavioral Health Social Workers provide a wide variety of social services including, but not limited to: needs assessments, recovery plan development, advocacy, referral to community resources, collaboration with other professionals, and other services as needed for both children and adults with varying disabilities and functioning levels.

They provide responsive, courteous, efficient, and culturally sensitive services to County residents and the general public.

The duties described below are indicative of what the Behavioral Health Social Worker I & II generally might be asked to perform. Lists of more specific program specific duties are attached. This is not an exhaustive list of job responsivities; therefore, other duties may be assigned.

• Assesses and evaluates prospective consumers' needs, determines appropriate response, and assures that response is made. Assesses and intervenes as necessary in crisis situations. Refers to other community resources as needed
• Provides social services per Wisconsin Statutes, court policies, and/or requirements of the program, state, or federal guidelines
• Works to achieve services and treatment objectives without duplication of effort and with maximum effective use of staff time and available resources
• Coordinates access to services, monitors cases to ensure that services are provided in an appropriate and timely manner, reviews progress, and terminates services when goals are attained
• Explains the scope of the agency's services and discusses the client's rights and responsibilities in relation to the use of such services in a timely manner
• Determines eligibility for services and assists with referrals to appropriate community resources
• Works to achieve involvement and participation of the client, client's family, and client's natural support system in resolving problems
• Maintains case records and completes necessary documentation timely, in accordance with program requirements, and within the system used (Avatar, VW, paper charts, etc.)
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, supervision times, and other scheduled meetings
• Completes service/payment authorizations or other billing documents for client services and works closely with staff from Financial Services
• Works to achieve active involvement and participation of schools, court, health care providers, and other appropriate community resources in resolving problems
• Participates in committees and task forces as assigned as a liaison to various community agencies and organizations
• Assists with outreach to the community and specific groups related to Jackson County Behavioral Health programs and other resources
• Plan and participate in prevention services and activities. Provide community presentations and training as required
• Advocates for client needs
• Maintains confidentiality of client-related information and maintains respectful treatment of clients
• Prepares for and testifies in court as necessary or required
• Adheres to approved social worker principles, methods and practices, including the National Association of Social Worker's (NASW) code of ethics
• Develops professional knowledge and skills by attending training events, conferences, and workshops
• Develops and maintains the ability to problem-solve and to perform duties in an independent manner while exercising good judgment
• Uses discretion with consumers; observes rules of confidentiality and maintains non-judgmental attitude
• Deescalates potentially dangerous situations
• Assists and provides back up to other Social Workers as necessary or required
• Performs other related duties as assigned

DISTINGUISHINGFEATURESOFWORK

Employees in this class perform relatively the same duties as the Social Worker, but at an advanced level. They demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills gained through coursework and experience.

EXPERIENCEANDTRAININGREQUIREMENTS

Must have full State Social Worker Certification prior to starting at or progressing to Social Worker II and at least 1 year work experience working with the target population (mental health, AODA, Physical Disabilities, or Developmental Disabilities) by providing psychosocial rehabilitation services or case management.
