Position OverviewA well-established global organization is seeking an accomplished Accounting & Administration Director to lead its U.S. accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and administrative operations.
This highly visible leadership role will serve as a key liaison between the U.S. organization and its headquarters in Japan. The Director will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, deliver accurate bilingual financial reporting, strengthen policies and controls, lead audit support, and provide strategic financial insight to executive management.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who combines strong technical expertise with people-management skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both Japanese and English.
Key Responsibilities Accounting and Financial Leadership- Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of financial statements and management reports
- Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to headquarters in Japan in both Japanese and English
- Analyze financial results, identify trends and risks, and provide actionable recommendations to management
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and long-term financial planning
- Partner with executive management on strategic financial analysis and key business initiatives
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other professional service providers
- Serve as a primary financial and administrative liaison with the company’s headquarters in Japan and affiliated companies
- Communicate complex financial and operational matters clearly in both Japanese and English
- Coordinate by email, telephone, and virtual meetings, including occasional communication outside regular U.S. business hours when required
- Ensure compliance with company policies, applicable accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
- Lead internal-control reviews and implement improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and accountability
- Coordinate internal audit activities, including audit preparation, supporting documentation, and on-site audit visits
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company policies, procedures, manuals, and operational guidelines
- Serve as the company’s Export Control Officer
, ensuring compliance with applicable export-control laws, regulations, and internal requirements
- Lead, supervise, and develop Accounting and Administrative team members
- Manage employee performance, training, workload allocation, and professional development
- Oversee purchasing and procurement activities while promoting policy compliance and cost-effective business practices
- Support efficient and consistent administrative operations across the organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Professional fluency in both Japanese and English
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger operations
- Hands-on experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and support management decision-making
- Experience leading accounting professionals and managing daily departmental operations
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit support, and process-improvement initiatives
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to commute regularly to the Wixom, Michigan office
This position is based in Wixom, Michigan
. Regular on-site attendance is required.
After successfully completing the three-month introductory period, the employee will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule in accordance with company policy and business needs.
