Special Populations Consultant
In This Role
You will deliver direct services to students, staff, and districts. You will provide professional development, consulting services, and leadership to the Oakland Schools Technical Campuses (OSTC) and Career Focused Education Department (CFE) regarding special population students, as defined by Perkins, and related instructional needs. You will also ensure all constituent local district and public school academy staff in Oakland County are engaged in compliant practices by meeting state and federal regulations with regard to students with IEPs.
What We Need
- Gathers and interprets local district information regarding special population students while consulting with personnel on research-based strategies to improve student performance.
- Consults with general and special educators on literacy, assessment, instruction, classroom management, inclusion, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiation, progress monitoring, data analysis, and IEP development.
- Assists students and staff with implementing accommodations for assignments, curriculum, career habits, and technical assessments, while also supporting behavior plans, disciplinary procedures, and representing OSTC at district IEP meetings regarding transition plans and functional levels.
- Demonstrates current knowledge of research, methodology, and technology to design and conduct professional learning programs in special population focus areas for OSTC staff, students, and constituent districts.
- Provides leadership regarding CTE programs at OSTC while acting as a liaison between Career Focused Education, agencies, professional organizations, families, district staff, and university Social Work internship programs.
What You Need
- Master's degree in an education-related field (i.e., teaching, social work, psychology, speech pathology, etc.) with valid state credentials.
- Five or more years of related work experience.
- Special Education Endorsement preferred.
Work Location
Oakland Schools Technical Campus - SW 1000 Beck Rd Wixom, MI 48393 This position is eligible to participate in the Summer Flexible Work Program, which permits employees to perform their job duties for up to two days a week from a designated alternative location during the summer months.
Salary Details
$95,801 - $111,102 salary based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $119,646 after employment with Oakland Schools.
Exempt position / 12-month work year.
