The primary purpose of this position is to provide applied electrical engineering and technical expertise for customers in the areas of power systems studies, power quality analysis, installation, startup, maintenance, and repair.
Responsibilities- Complete Power Systems Tech duties including inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, performing start-up, and collecting data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500 kV) electrical systems.
- MCCs, breakers and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering; test and calibrate electro‑mechanical and solid‑state relays.
- Low, medium and high voltage switch gear and circuit breaker testing; rotate on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies when called.
- Perform power system engineering assessments in protection, short‑circuit calculation, arc‑flash hazard analysis and design improvements for medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Assess results and prepare written reports of findings, proposals, and improvement solutions.
- Perform electrical design improvements to support upgrades of facilities’ electrical distribution systems based on assessment results.
- Meet customers on site to review and identify their needs.
- Provide engineering cost estimates and bid proposals.
- Utilize engineering skills, applicable codes and standards to implement safe, dependable, and cost‑effective electrical systems.
- Provide technical support and quality control for assigned projects.
- Read and accurately interpret power system wiring diagrams, including DC elementary drawings.
- Work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Maintain solid theoretical knowledge of electricity and a strong aptitude for problem solving.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
- Be dependable, responsible, and organized, demonstrating good judgment.
- Exhibit good customer service, time‑management, and follow‑up skills.
- Collaborate with customers, peers, and management to resolve client issues.
- Work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and be available to work out of town as needed.
- Conduct all work and decisions in strict compliance with regulatory laws.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 3 years of related experience. NETA certification required.
- Preferred:
Prior professional experience in power engineering studies and industrial project design. - Experience with electric power systems, short‑circuit studies, protective coordination, load flow, and arc‑flash hazard analysis.
- Proficiency with power system analysis software.
- Excellent written and oral communication of technical topics.
- Self‑management of assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
- Interpret specifications to design technical solutions that meet customer requests.
- Ability to run medium‑size studies and projects independently.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
- Work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Customer‑focused teamwork across the organization.
- Drive for accuracy and efficiencies.
- Valid driver’s license required for positions that use a company vehicle.
