CAD Designer
Location:
Wixom, Michigan – Onsite – Fulltime and Direct (not contract)
The Designer is responsible for developing 3D models and 2D drawings for automotive exhaust system components and assemblies. This role works closely with product engineering teams and supports the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept through production launch, within the APQP framework.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with product engineers to design exhaust components and subsystems that integrate with overall vehicle systems
- Develop 3D CAD models using parametric features to enable efficient design updates and revisions
- Create and maintain 2D engineering drawings derived from 3D models
- Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards to all applicable drawings
- Review and interpret customer packaging data to support design development
- Generate engineering study files incorporating customer requirements and design concepts
- Complete engineering change requests and work orders while maintaining project timelines
- Perform preliminary checks on models and drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Develop specialized 3D models to support CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) analysis
- Collaborate proactively with cross-functional teams through verbal, written, and visual communication
- Participate in and present design concepts and updates in team and project meetings
- Associate degree in CAD, Drafting, or a related field (or equivalent certification)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a design or drafting role (preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
- Experience with PLM systems (Siemens Teamcenter preferred)
- Working knowledge of GD&T principles
- Familiarity with automotive systems and components (preferred)
- Knowledge of exhaust systems and related manufacturing processes (preferred)
- Strong communication, presentation, and computer skills
- Ability to effectively participate in and lead meetings across various organizational levels
