Location & Travel

Wixom, MI (must live in Michigan and commute). Potentially travel 30–50%. Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

Role Overview

Applications Engineer – ZEISS Metrology Services. Supports revenue growth by providing metrology solutions at the services center. Operates measuring devices and associated software, ensuring availability, response time, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Consistently deliver high‑quality, accurate results on time.
  • Set up and operate laboratory measurement equipment.
  • Select and use appropriate software (e.g., Calypso, VG Studio Max).
  • Generate and submit inspection reports as required.
  • Monitor system performance for accuracy and repeatability.
  • Conduct peer reviews of job results with colleagues.
  • Assist the Site Manager with quoting activities as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, with a strong emphasis on radiation safety.
  • Review job requirements with the Site Manager before work begins.
  • Communicate results to customers, ideally within two days of job completion.
  • Prepare, submit, and retain proof‑of‑delivery documents in the network drive.
  • Drive productivity by using ZEISS tools and best practices (quick‑change tooling, offline programming, MCC, PiWeb).
Qualifications
  • Four‑year degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics, or equivalent experience (minimum 2 years in the metrology industry).
  • Calypso software experience is a plus.
  • Strong ability to read engineering drawings for dimensional control.
  • Proficiency operating all types of ZEISS measuring machines, including programming and setup.
  • Strong computer skills and affinity for computer‑aided data analysis tools.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and independent learning skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce concise technical reports.
  • Ability to reason and negotiate complex problems with customers.
