Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation & Robotics - Up to 30% travel
Design the Machines That Power Modern Manufacturing.
If you enjoy creating custom machinery instead of modifying the same equipment every day, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
We're partnering with an innovative automation company that engineers advanced robotic manufacturing systems for customers across a wide range of industries. Every project presents a new challenge—from robotic work cells and custom tooling to fully automated production systems.
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys turning ideas into real-world automation solutions while working alongside talented controls, robotics, and manufacturing engineers.
What You'll Do- Design custom robotic work cells, automated equipment, and machine layouts from concept through production.
- Develop mechanical assemblies, fixtures, end‑of‑arm tooling, and work holding solutions that improve manufacturing performance.
- Create detailed 3D models, production drawings, and fabrication documentation using Solid Works or similar CAD software.
- Design machine guarding, structural components, dust collection interfaces, and supporting equipment that meets safety and performance requirements.
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation to ensure designs perform in real‑world production environments.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and fabrication partners to deliver practical, cost‑effective solutions.
- Improve existing equipment by identifying opportunities for better performance, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
- Support projects from initial concept through installation and customer deployment.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience within industrial automation, custom machinery, or manufacturing equipment.
- Strong proficiency with Solid Works, Inventor, Creo, or similar 3D CAD software.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience producing fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Comfortable working in a hands‑on environment supporting assembly, troubleshooting, and prototype development.
- Knowledge of machining, grinding, polishing, or material removal processes.
- Familiarity with machine safety standards, guarding, and industrial safety requirements.
- Experience designing equipment for high‑volume manufacturing environments.
- Design custom equipment—not repetitive production parts.
- Work on innovative robotics and automation projects from concept through installation.
- Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- See your designs come to life on customer production floors.
- Enjoy a collaborative culture where engineers have a voice and projects are technically challenging.
- Competitive compensation, strong benefits, and excellent long‑term career growth.
If you're passionate about designing innovative machinery, solving complex engineering challenges, and helping manufacturers automate the future, we'd love to hear from you.
