This position is located in Wixom, MI, Monday-Friday onsite, with on-call availability.

What’s the role?

Leads Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), radiation safety,and related regulatory compliance programs for Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, LLC and Carl Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions, LLC sites. Develops, implements, and maintains programs, procedures, training, and audits to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, compliant radiation use, and adherence to environmental, DOT, OSHA, and other applicable regulations. Partners with the Facilities – East Manager and other facility leaders to implement EHS and radiation requirements within buildings and operations.

Work directly with Management Team to ensure their facility needs are satisfied. Perform other related duties as directed to assist the Head of Business Excellence, Quality, & Digital Solutions.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Health & Safety Management Design, implement, and maintain the Employee Health and Safety (EHS) management system, including policies, procedures, and standards.

Develop and deliver safety training (e.g., general safety, hazard communication, ergonomics, emergency response) and track completion.

Lead Emergency Response Team (ERT) programs and emergency preparedness, including drills and emergency plans, in collaboration with Facilities.

Conduct and document GEMBA safety walks and inspections; track findings through to closure.

Lead incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).Maintain OSHA‑required logs and reporting (e.g., OSHA 300, 300A, 301) and interface with regulators as needed.

Environmental Compliance & Sustainability (Program Ownership)
Maintain and implement ISO 14001 environmental management requirements for covered sites.

Own and manage environmental permits and compliance obligations (e.g., water, stormwater, wastewater, air, waste).Manage RCRA hazardous waste programs and associated documentation, labeling, storage, and disposal.

Maintain DOT compliance for hazardous materials shipping, including training and documentation.

Define and oversee hazardous waste and recycling programs; work with Facilities to implement physical collection, storage areas, and vendor interfaces.

Track and report environmental performance metrics and support corporate sustainability initiatives.

Radiation Safety Officer Responsibilities Serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for licensed activities; ensure compliance with NRC or Agreement State regulations and license conditions.

Ensure radiation exposures are ALARA and in accordance with applicable regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Part 20).Develop, maintain, and distribute radiation protection procedures and ensure implementation in daily operations.

Verify that individuals installing, maintaining, or servicing devices containing sealed sources are properly licensed/trained.

Determine monitoring requirements; manage personnel dosimetry programs, including badge issuance, exchange, and record review.

Perform or coordinate required radiation surveys and dose assessments; maintain related records.

Conduct and document annual (or more frequent) audits of the radiation protection program; drive corrective actions.

Manage licensing activities, including initial applications, amendments, renewals, and decommissioning/disposal of licensed equipment.
