Assistant Store Director – West Detroit Market

• Overall operations responsibility across food and general merchandise areas.
• Management of planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps across the store.
• Engage team members and leadership to deliver the best shopping experience.
• Build a culture that promotes positive team‑member engagement, retention, and recruitment.
• Identify, select, and develop talent within the store.
• Uphold cultural standards and values through open, clear communication.
• Assess financial results and implement business strategies to drive profitability.
• Develop strategies to improve customer service, sales, and profitability.
• Ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved promptly and efficiently.
• Ensure products and displays are merchandised to maximize sales.
• Serve as a strong community partner, cultivating local relationships.
• Assist the Store Director in running overall store operations as needed.
• Lead performance‑management activities for leaders and team members.
• Attract, select, and retain a team that supports the Meijer culture, including DEI values.
• Communicate daily through huddles to share financial performance, customer feedback, recognition, and important information.
• Drive candid, open communication within the store aligned with Meijer’s Care and Accountability philosophy.
• Communicate product‑freshness standards and ensure processes are followed.
• Take responsibility for all store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
• Verify compliance with Meijer and local authorities’ Food Safety standards.
• Assist in creating community connections through personal involvement.
• Deliver key performance metrics: sales, shrink, labor, margin, direct contribution, net profit, customer satisfaction, safety.
• Drive new implementations/initiatives identified by store operations.
• Involved in daily DSD execution, backroom, and sales‑floor excellence.
• Stay current on competitive trends and analyze strengths/weaknesses of competitors.
• Follow merchandising planograms and use the 85/15 rule for design plans including ordering, weekly ads, seasonal assortments, displays & pricing.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of retail/grocery/operations management/customer‑service experience.
• 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
• Passion for leading those under your care while delivering industry‑leading service.
• Demonstrates proactive and creative thinking applied to business challenges.
• Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs and drive sales.
• Strong business acumen.
• Innovative attitude to help set industry standards.
