Roadside Assistance Technician
This is a full‑time, hourly position in the Emergency Roadside Assistance team. The technician operates service trucks, provides basic vehicle repairs, delivers critical support, and works largely outdoors in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities- Operate a service truck or tow vehicle to assist AAA members and employees.
- Use GPS and maps to locate members who experience breakdowns.
- Provide services including fuel delivery, battery testing and replacement, jump‑starting, lockout service, and flat‑tire repair or replacement.
- Tow vehicles that cannot be safely driven or cannot be restarted.
- Deliver excellent customer service with a 100% member satisfaction goal.
- Offer value‑added services such as On‑the‑Go Tow or battery tests/sales.
- Support special events (parades, travel shows, Car Care, public relations).
The position involves frequent exposure to road hazards and weather extremes, with less than 5% time spent in a temperature‑controlled office. Employees typically work on their own and may travel up to 95% of the time.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Valid state driver’s license with minimal infractions.
- If employed in Illinois, a valid Illinois C‑Non CDL driver’s license is required.
- Experience with tablets or similar devices for call updates, policy review, record keeping, and task completion.
- Strong customer‑service skills and clear communication ability.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Successful completion of drug screening, MVR, criminal background check, and DOT health screening (pre‑employment and ongoing).
- Experience servicing vehicles: fueling, battery testing and replacement, jump‑starting, lockout service, and flat‑tire repair/replacement.
- Previous tow truck driver or roadside service experience.
- Capability to operate a wheel lift, flatbed, dolly towing equipment, and full‑size or mini service vehicle; commercial driving experience is a plus.
Hourly rate: $23.00 for Michigan employees, overtime at time and a half, shift premiums of 5% (5 pm–11 pm) and 10% (11 pm–5 am).
